Bidooh was started by Abdul Alim and Shaz Mughal. The two tech pioneers had gotten together with the aim of brainstorming a world-changing idea. After many hours deliberation, white-boarding and ultimately no profound ideas, they decided to take a well-earned break, grab something to eat and watch a movie.
The ‘Eureka!’ moment came almost accidentally whilst watching the movie ‘Minority Report’. The defining scene is where Tom Cruise goes into a well-known store and walking toward a screen, which on recognising him, instantly changes to showcase information to his preferences. That was it! They could see a world where digital billboards could dynamically change their messages or adverts depending on who was nearby. That world was now.
The duo set to work and within 18 months they had built, what they called, the world’s smartest digital billboard. The billboard could identify who was walking towards it and was able to use their name and Facebook photo to display a personalised offer and message.
From these beginnings Bidooh began showcasing its platform and caught the attention of successful angel investor Michael Edelson, who recognised the platform’s enormous potential and became their lead investor and chairman. With Michael’s guidance and experience he quickly helped them establish a wider team with a sustainable business plan and support operation. Today, Bidooh has expanded its operations and grown its cloud-based platform, supporting services in 8 territories around the world with more joining in 2019.
